Taking it outside

After my first foray with Bahrain Road Runners, I found that it’s way too beautiful outside to stay cooped up in the gym and decided to run around my neighbourhood instead. Also my family (brother, sister in-law, 2 nieces) got me a suunto watch with heart rate monitor that I couldn’t resist trying out. Besides, the watch had a way of making me guilty if I don’t run because it kept saying  “exercise day” on the face, just below the time.

The first day I went out in Tubli, I realized plenty of construction was going on and I had to watch my step. After about 20 minutes, I was just concentrating on the breathing that I hardly looked at the ground. That’s when it happened. My ankle sprained when I slid on a rock (I know!! Not again!!!) but luckily I was able to run within minutes after. I did 3 km that day.

This morning I woke up at the crack of dawn when the skies were half dark and just a sliver of light was peeking through. I donned my running outfit and yes, I brushed my teeth albeit at warp speed, grabbed a bottle of water, the media player and dashed out the door (I didn’t forget my deodorant too ;p Don’t want any other runner I come across faint at first smell).

Oh what a glorious sight that behold me. Dawn must be the best time to run in the entire day. It was absolutely gorgeous!!

I had a new playlist to accompany me on my run outside and by the time I reached “Hit the Road Jack”, somewhere along the 3rd km, I was rewarded with skies the colour of blue and purple with a multitude of orange on the horizon.

Morning Sky in Bahrain

This was what I missed while slogging away in the gym. Words cannot express what the heart felt at such beauty.

From this moment on 70% of my workout will be taken outside where I could enjoy God’s creation.
